Once long ago, in ancient India, an epic war was fought between dharma and adharma. It shook an empire stretching across three worlds, ended a centuries-old reign, and marked the beginning of a new age. The victors are worshipped as gods to this day and stories of their greatness are part of everyday conversation.
This is the story of the one who lost. Creators Vijayendra Mohanty and Vivek Goel explore the values inherent in the Ramayana and retell the immortal story as something more than a simple tale of good triumphing over evil. This book is different from The Ramayana as the protagonist here is Ravana instead of Rama. The creators believe that the land of Lanka had prospered under the rule of the mighty Ravana, and as a result, they have come up with this book to pay their tribute to this influential ruler, addressing him as The Lord.
This is the life story of the great grandson of Brahma, a perfect hybrid between a Sage and a Rakshasi. This is the life story of Ravana before he abducted Sita…. Ravanayan – The epic comic series
And I could not have made a better choice for a holiday reading. Spanning over 10 issues, RAVANAYAN tells the complete story of Raavan, how a child with a mixed upbringing of human and Rakshas struggles with his internal conflict and rage, how he channels it and how he accepts the ultimate responsibility and seals his fate for the greater good, that of telling the story of hope, the story of good over evil, the story of unifying a country torn apart, the story of Ramayana. Although the story is has been bombarded on us through various references and books and stories and movies and sitcoms, the writing and the plot progression in this comic makes sure that you are glued to it. The writer has achieved this by downplaying popular shorts or incidents, like the actual kidnapping of Sita, or the insult of Shurpanakha, and focussing on the parts which actually define the King of Lanka, which is no mean feat. The character progressions are quick, but none feel rushed.

Ravanayan is a ten-part comic series based on the Hindu epic Ramayana released by Holy Cow Entertainment in July with Ravana as the chief protagonist. Ravanayan is divided into twelve chapters spread over ten issues. It is an imaginative take on the life of Ravana , the antagonist of Ramayana. Ravanayan is an independent chapter 7 issue comic book series project being undertaken by Vijayendra Mohanty writer and Vivek Goel artist. Apart from Ravana being the chief protagonist instead of Rama , Ravanayan departs from Ramayana in other ways. The creators of Ravanayan address Ravana with the honorific title of 'Lord' because, as they reason out, his kingdom had flourished under his able rule.
