If configured properly ,theOVO message interceptor can intercept messages from any applicationrunning locally on the managed node. OVO can also monitor its own processes. If soconfigured, the agent even suppresses duplicate or similar events. These problems can occur anywhere within a heterogeneousdistributed environment consisting of network elements, systems, andapplications.
Registering Problems OVO notifies you when a problem is about to occur, and then provides you with the resources you need to avoid the problem. Likewise, OVOnotifies you when a problem has just occurred, and provides you with the resources you need to solve the problem.
Solving Problems On the management server, the message is displayed in a browser. The message tells you how severe the problem is, where that is, on which managed node the problem occurred, and what triggered the message. Or the message mighttrigger another message instructing for a corrective actionmanually.
Documenting Solutions After the action has been completed successfully, the user can annotate the message with a comment, and then move the annotated message into the history database by acknowledging it.
Generating Reportsyou can also generate reports from the database In large environments, it iscrucial to be able to pinpoint problems quickly. OVO helps you pinpoint trouble in your environment by providing afast link between the OVO system and the network managementview. Then you can begin corrective actions from the ApplicationDesktop itself. Messages are structured, readable pieces of information about system status, system events, or problem related to a managed node within the system contd… Typically, an event represents either a change in status or a threshold violation.
About ActionsAn action is a response to a message. If the event that creates themessage is a problem, OVO can start an action to correct the problem. Actions are also used to perform daily tasks, such as starting anapplication every day on the same nodes. An action can be a shell script, program, command, application start, or any other response required. Automatic actions do not require operator interaction.
OVOstarts these actions as soon as a message is received. These actions are started and stopped by an operator. Primarily responsible for installingand configuring the OVO software, and establishing the initialoperating policies and procedures. Allowed to create, modify, and deletetemplates and monitors only.
Uses OVO almost continuously to maintain, manage, monitor, and control systems and objects. The monitor does not need to be physically connected to the management-server system.
Microsoft IIS 5. Data is automatically aggregated and summarized by Performance Manager. It provides web based reports. You can install a client on any networked system. This application lets you view, schedule, generate, and deploy reports. These programs complete actions as follows: 1 Discover systems that are running OpenView Performance agentsfor Windows systems or OpenView Operations OVO subagents onyour network; 2 Schedule periods of time during which data is collected on those systems or from the OVO database ;and 3 Generate reports that contain the collected data.
After a system is discovered, it is added to the Discovered Systems area of the Reporter hierarchy. Discovered systems are placed in groups for easier access andreporting. HP OpenView is the former name for a Hewlett-Packard product family that consisted of network and systems management products. HP OpenView software provided large-scale system and network management of an organization's IT infrastructure. It included optional modules from HP as well as third-party management software, which connected within a common framework and communicated with one another. It collects, processes and correlates usage records and events from network elements and service applications across voice and data services for prepaid, post-paid and real-time charging in wireless, wireline and cable networks. This usage data can be passed on to business support systems for usage-based billing systems, capacity management and analysis of subscriber behavior. Formerly products from Mercury Interactive and now integrated into the HP portfolio:.
